The longest government shutdown in U.S. history has hit day 42, with the House expected to vote on an updated funding bill.

Republicans offered Democrats a new bill that would end the shutdown, as well as advance three full-year spending bills. As part of the deal, Republicans are reportedly willing to talk to Democrats about rehiring the federal workers who have been laid off since the shutdown started.

The funding bill that finally passed the Senate after 40 days advanced through the House Rules Committee late Tuesday night.
